Just the Facts, Ma'am
-
San Francisco still seeks its first road win of the season, as the team continues a three-game road swing deep in the heart of Texas. The Dons enter the game fresh off a 68-60 loss at Sacramento State, and UTSA looks to rebound from its own loss—a 55-42 beating at Houston.
Know the Foe
-
Texas-San Antonio stands at 5-2 on the season, picking up all five of its wins at home at the Convocation Center.
-
Interestingly enough, no Roadrunners average double figures in any category. Sophomore Kamra King leads the scoring charge for the Roadrunners, putting in 8.7 points per game and getting to the line an average of four times a night. In the team's most recent outing against the Cougars, she struggled from the field with 2-of-10 shooting and her eight-point outing was tops for the team, who shot just 27.9 percent and 1-of-15 from 3-point range.
USF and Texas-San Antonio – The Series
-
Sunday marks the first meeting between the Dons and the Roadrunners and the first trip to Texas for USF since a trip to Lubbock for the Basketball Travelers Tip-Off Tourney No. 27-29, 2009.
-
During that tournament, the Dons squared off against host Texas Tech, Prairie View A&M and Texas-Arlington, coming away from the Lone Star State with a 1-2 record.
Dogged Defense
-
The Dons are leading the West Coast Conference in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 33.0 percent shooting from the field and .227 from beyond the arc on the season. This mark sets USF in 39th in the nation and just above Tennessee on the list.
“Home”coming
-
The trip to Texas will be a homecoming of sorts for a pair of players who lace it up for the Green and Gold. Junior Alexa Herdick is a Dallas, Texas, native and sophomore Aundrea Gordon calls McKinney home.
-
“It's a lot more diverse out here in San Francisco compared to back home in Texas,” Gordon compared. “The weather is a lot different. It's a lot cooler here and not humid. And it's a more city feel—no backyards for the dogs to go play in like back home.
“I'm enjoying myself out in San Francisco. Just the family—that's what I miss.”
Sacramento State Remix
-
Senior Mel Khlok made her last trip home of her collegiate career and led the Dons in scoring with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting in a game where the stands were filled for the Sacramento native.
-
USF committed 34 turnovers in the contest, the most by a Dons team since a Nov. 13, 2011, game at San Jose State produced 35 turnovers, but also resulted in a 88-77 victory as the Dons sunk 61.5 percent of its shots.
-
Khlok recorded her 100th career assist in the outing and sophomore Alicia Scafidi notched her 100th point in a Dons uniform, where she now stands at 101.
-
For the sixth straight game, the Dons outshot their opponents.
