USF Returns Home to Face Dominican on Saturday
USF (6-6, 0-0 WCC) returns to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday night to face the Dominican University Penguins (6-3, 2-0 Pac West) in its last non-conference game before opening WCC play next Wednesday night at Santa Clara.
The Dons are coming off a 67-49 victory over East Tennessee State at the Diamond Head Classic, which followed losses to 18th-ranked San Diego State (80-58) and Ole Miss (85-78). The Penguins ran their winning streak to four games after a 96-60 victory over Simon Fraser on Dec. 17.
USF is 4-1 at home this season, with its only loss coming against Holy Cross, 73-63, on Dec. 18.

USF-Dominican Series
In the only game contested between the two schools, USF defeated Dominican 92-66 in Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 16, 2009. The Penguins jumped out to a 15-3 lead before eventually falling by 26 points.

USF and Dominican Ties
Dominican is coached by Booker T. Harris '99, who was a guard on USF's 1998 team that won the WCC Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament under then-head coach Phil Mathews.
Dominican's men's golf coach is former USF standout Gary Nelson, Jr. '08, who is the son of former USF golf coach Gary Nelson, who now serves as an associate athletic director on the Hilltop.

Diamond Head Classic Rewind
USF dropped two of three games in the Hawaiian Arlines Diamond Head Classic, falling to 18th-ranked San Diego State (80-58) and Ole Miss (85-78) before defeating East Tennessee State (67-49) on Christmas morning.
The Dons trailed San Diego State 47-45 with 12:22 left before the Aztecs went on a 33-13 run to close out the game. Cole Dickerson notched his sixth double-double of the season with 15 points to go along with 12 rebounds, while Cody Doolin chipped in with 11 points and eight assists. De'End Parker also reached double-figures with 10 points.
USF trailed Ole Miss by just three points at 73-70 with 3:01 remaining before dropping a 85-78 decision. Doolin topped all USF scorers with 20 points while Parker added 17 and Dickerson 14.
The Dons snapped its five-game losing streak with a 67-49 victory over East Tennessee State in a game that tipped off at 9:00 a.m. HT on Christmas morning. Dickerson finished with a game-high 19 points while Doolin added 15.
USF shot 45.0 percent (73-for-162) from the field in the three games, including 38.9 percent (23-for-59) from three-point range.

Busy Stretch
USF is currently in a stretch that will see the Dons play six games in a span of 12 days, which culminates with Saturday's game against Dominican.
The Dons will open West Coast Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Santa Clara.

Winning Ways
USF is 40-26 (.606) in their last 66 games following a 5-9 start to the 2010-11 season. USF has also made back-to-back postseason appearances under Rex Walters, competing in the CIT in 2010-11 and the CBI last season.
Last season, the Dons finished with an overall record of 20-14, marking the program's first 20-win season since 1981-82 (25-6).

Walters Closing in on 100th Career Win
A win over Dominican on Saturday would give USF head coach Rex Walters his 100th career coaching victory. Walters' career record, which includes two seasons as head coach at Florida Atlantic, stands at 99-105. His five-year USF coaching record is 68-72.
The Dons have improved their win total each year under Walters' guidance.

Leaders in Their Field
Three USF players -- Cole Dickerson, De'End Parker and Cody Doolin -- rank in the top-20 nationally in various statistical categories.
Dickerson ranks third the nation in rebounding, averaging 12.1 boards a game, just behind of Siena's O.D. Anosike (12.4) and Delaware's Jamelle Harris (12.2).
Parker ranks 16th nationally in three-point field goal percentage, as the junior two-guard is shooting 52.8 percent (19-for-36) from beyond the arc after 12 games.
Doolin is averaging 6.3 assists per game, which ranks 19th among the national leaders.

Running Hot and Cold
USF is shooting just 41.5 percent (135-for-325) over its last six games against Pacific (22-for-52), Nevada (17-for-50), Holy Cross (23-for-61), San Diego State (21-for-53), Ole Miss (28-for-55) and East Tennessee State (24-for-54), following a four-game stretch in which the Dons shot 50 percent or better from the floor vs. American, Columbia, Montana and St. John's.
The Dons shot 45.3 percent (43-for-95) from three-point range over their first six games -- tops in the nation -- but have managed to shoot just 33.0 percent (39-for-118) from long distance in the last six games vs. Pacific (9-24). Nevada (2-15), Holy Cross (5-20). San Diego State (8-18), Ole Miss (7-22) and East Tennessee State (8-19).
USF ranks seventh in the WCC in field goal percentage (44.4) and second in three-point field goal percentage (38.5).

Board Work
After outrebounding its first five opponents by a margin of 11.4 boards a game, USF has been outrebounded by a margin of 35.2 to 30.4 in its last seven contests vs. St. John's (34-37), Pacific (25-36), Nevada (30-45), Holy Cross (34-41), San Diego State (25-34), Ole Miss (27-33) and East Tennessee State (38-21).
Cole Dickerson ranks third in the nation in rebounding with a 12.1 per game average and accounts for 34.6 percent (145 of 418) of the team's rebounding total.

From the Line
USF is shooting just 63.2 percent (158-for-250) from the foul line, which is the lowest percentage among WCC teams. Cody Doolin ranks fourth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 86.0 percent (49-57) while the rest of the team is shooting 56.4 percent (109-for-193) from the line.

In It to Win It
In three of USF's six losses this season, the Dons have trailed by six points or less with at least 4:14 remaining in the game.
Against Pacific, the Dons trailed 61-59 with 1:23 left before the Tigers scored the last six points of the game to win 67-59. USF trailed Nevada by just six points at 51-45 with 4:14 remaining before falling 59-51. The Dons trailed Ole Miss 73-70 with 3:01 on the clock before dropping a 85-78 decision.

Dickerson Doubling Down
Cole Dickerson is averaging a double-double 12 games into the 2012-13 campaign, as the junior forward from Federal Way, Wash. is scoring 14.2 points and grabbing 13.1 rebounds per game.
Dickerson has posted six double-doubles in 12 games this season against Stanford (11-19), Cal State-East Bay (14-15), Columbia (10-14), Montana (19-20), Holy Cross (17-17) and San Diego State (15-12) and has narrowly missed double-doubles in three other games against Pacific (14-9), Nevada (11-9) and East Tennessee State (19-9).
The last USF player to average a double-double for an entire season was Darrell Tucker, when he scored 18.9 points and grabbed 10.1 rebounds a game in 2001-02.
Dickerson also posted double-doubles in both exhibition games against San Francisco State (21-15) and UNC-Pemboke (24-10).
Dickerson averaged 7.1 ppg and 4.0 rpg in 34 games last season, including one start.

Parker Tops Dons Scoring Column
Junior guard De'End Parker leads USF in scoring afer 12 games with a 14.6 per game average, which ranks 10th among all WCC players.
Parker was averaging 19.6 points a game after the first six contests, which included a career-high 31-point effort against Columbia, but has averaged just 9.5 points (57 total) in the last six games against Pacific (7), Nevada (4), Holy Cross (10), San Diego State (10), Ole Miss (17) and East Tennessee State (9).
Parker ranks 16th the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 52.8 (19-for-36) and is shooting 43.1 percent (62-144) overall from the floor. However, he has made just 20-of-60 (33.3) shots from the floor over the last three games, including 4-for-16 (25.0) from three-point range.
De'End grew up two blocks from the USF campus and attended Lincoln High School and City College of San Francisco before spending one season at UCLA.

Doolin Climbing USF's Career Assist Chart
Junior point guard Cody Doolin ranks third the WCC and 19th nationally in assists per game (6.3). Doolin's career assist total now stands at 324, which ranks sixth on USF's all-time list. He needs 10 more dimes to tie Ali Thomas (1997-01) for fifth all-time.

Debuts
Eight players have made their USF debuts this season, including freshmen Tim Derksen, Coltin Gelb, Matt Christiansen, Avry Holmes, Tao Xu and redshirt freshman Mark Tollefsen.
De'End Parker, who spent last year at UCLA and Frank Rogers, who played at Cabrillo College, have also made their USF debuts this season.

The Home Record
USF is 4-1 at home this season and boasts a 38-14 (.730) record in its last 52 home games dating back to the 2009-10 season.
The Dons are 45-19 (.703) in Memorial Gymnasium in five seasons under head coach Rex Walters.
