(Santa Clara) - During the final regular season game of their career, all three San Francisco women's basketball seniors scored in double-digits as the Dons dropped a 69-62 decision to Santa Clara at the Leavey Center in Santa Clara, Calif. Rheina Ale paced the trio with 18 points, while Vania Singleterry narrowly missed a double-double.
San Francisco finished the regular season with a 5-24 overall record, 3-13 in West Coast Conference play. The Dons finished the conference season in eighth place and will face Loyola Marymount Wednesday in the opening round of the 2012 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
Santa Clara (12-17 overall, 5-11 WCC) opened the game strong, taking advantage of a slow start for USF. The Broncos opened on a 17-2 run in the first six minutes. San Francisco missed its first 11 shots, while Santa Clara was 7-for-10 during the span.
The Dons rallied late in the half, pulling within four with under three minutes left thanks to a 11-2 run sparked by six points from Singleterry. Santa Clara held onto it's lead, taking a 38-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
USF trailed by double-digits only once in the second half, as San Francisco pieced together a series of small runs throughout the 20 minutes. The Dons trailed by as many as 12 in the half, but by as few as three. San Francisco was in the game, until the very end, when early foul trouble proved to be the deciding factor.
Ale's 18 points led all scorers on the afternoon. She finished the day adding two rebounds and a steal while playing all 40 minutes of action.
Singleterry scored 13 points off the bench, which posted 37 total points on the afternoon. Singletery also led the defense with nine rebounds, two steals and a block.
Keating posted 10 points with seven rebounds, hitting two three-point baskets for the Green and Gold.
Lindsay Leo led the Broncos with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
