(Las Vegas) – San Francisco will square off against No. 8 Portland Thursday night in the first round of the 2012 Zappos.com West Coast Conference Championship at the Orleans Arena. The No. 5 Dons and Pilots will tip-off at 6:00 PM in a game televised nationally on BYUtv and streamed on USFDons.com via Stretch Internet.
Portland (7-23, 3-13 WCC) advances in the tournament after defeating No. 9 Santa Clara (8-22, 0-16 WCC) 74-70 in Wednesday's play-in game. The Dons swept the season series against the Pilots, defeating Portland 104-70 at War Memorial Gym (1/12/12). The Dons squeaked out a 72-71 triumph at the Chiles Center (2/11/12).
USF has won the last four meetings in the series and owns a 2-1 record in the WCC postseason. The Dons seized a 65-60 victory to open the 2005 event behind 22 points and eight rebounds from Tyrone Riley.
