SCOUTING LMU: The Lions conclude the sixth week of the 2011-12 West Coast Conference schedule on a roll and carry a 14-9, 7-3 league record after downing Pepperdine 67-57 Thursday night in Westchester. Loyola Marymount has won six of its last eight games and own a 7-7 record at Gersten Pavilion. LMU opened the season with a 69-58 triumph at then-No. 17 UCLA (11/11/11). Senior forward Drew Viney leads the way for the Lions offensively, averaging 15.9 points and 5.3 rebounds, while sophomore guard Anthony Ireland adds 15.4 points and a team-high 5.0 assists. LMU leads the WCC in free throw percentage at .734 and in 3-point field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot at a chilly .286 from long distance. Max Good is in his fourth season in Westchester and owns a career record of 289-291 and is 45-68 as the top Lion after taking over before the start of the 2008-09 season.
BLACKWELL NAMED WCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior forward
Perris Blackwell lifted the Dons to back-to-back victories at Santa Clara and against San Diego and earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors. For the week, Blackwell averaged 22.5 points on .667 (18-of-27) shooting, with 6.5 rebounds per game. Blackwell turned in a career-high with 26 points against the Toreros.
