
Men's Tennis Splits Singles in 4-3 Loss to Rival Gaels

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's tennis team lost a tough one on Monday to Bay Area rival Saint Mary's, 4-3, dropping the Dons to 1-4 in WCC play.
USF narrowly dropped the doubles point, winning one match and losing two. Junior William Schumacher and senior Thai Tu won an easy 8-1 decision over the Gaels' Maxime Olivan/Samuel Bloore, while the other two pairs for the Dons – sophomore Germain Bahri and junior Jonathon Knowlman and senior Jacob Hartwig and junior Richard Bucalem – both fell in tight matches, 9-7 and 8-6, respectively.
The rival Dons and Gaels went on to split singles competition, giving Saint Mary's the one-point win. Thai Tu and freshman Bernardo Saraiva both won straight-set matches, while Bucalem pulled out a gritty third-set tiebreaker to take down Seif Elsherbini of Saint Mary's
USF's match on Tuesday against Stanford was cancelled due to weather. The Dons return to action on Sunday, April 15 against conference foe San Diego.
