(San Francisco) - Stephanie Lopez has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the University of San Francisco women's basketball team, as announced by head coach Jennifer Azzi Wednesday. Lopez, a 5-8 point guard, will join the Dons after a stellar two-year career at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore.

"Stephanie has had an outstanding career scoring almost 1200 points in just two years at BMCC," said Azzi. "She will provide us both experience and leadership at the point. I am excited to get to work with Stephanie and see her in a USF uniform this fall."

Lopez, a graduate of Thineas Banning High in Wilmington, Calif., was the first player in Blue Mountain CC history to record 1,000 points, finishing with 1,172 career points. This season her 24.9 scoring averaged ranked fourth in the country. Her sophomore year, the Timberwolves advanced to their first NWACC Tournament and posted the most league victories in 30 years. She ranked in the top three in the league in scoring (24.9 ppg), steals (91) and assists (124). She leaves BMCC as the program leader in scoring and steals, while ranking second in assists and field goal percentage.

During her prep career, Lopez was a three-time first team All-City selection and a three-time All-Area second team honoree.

Lopez will don a USF jersey as a junior in the fall.
