SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The men's soccer team will kick off their 2012 season on Saturday, August 11 in an exhibition match against the Cal Poly Mustangs. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. at Alex G. Spanos Stadium in San Louis Obispo.
Entering his 12th season as head coach, Erik Visser returns nine starters from last season, including 2011 All-WCC Second Team-selection Miguel Aguilar and 2011 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year Brendan Roslund. Aguilar led the team with five goals and 13 points last season, while Roslund posted six shutouts in 18 matches, including 101 saves and a stingy 1.04 goals against average, both tops in the West Coast Conference.
Six incoming players join the team this year, including junior transfers Liam Kelly and Michael Shaddock. Kelly joins the Dons from Creighton University, a program that advanced to the National Semifinals in 2011.
Joshua Smith, Ryan Eppley, Jesus Del Toro, Tyler Sylvia, and Connor Gaal comprise a group of five incoming freshman.
After taking on Cal Poly, the men's soccer team will face Cal State Stanislaus on August 17 at 7:00 p.m., before the Green & Gold scrimmage on August 19 at Negoesco Stadium.
