SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Mackenzie Krieser's strike from 22 yards out with just 15 minutes remaining in the second half gave San Francisco a 1-0 win over Valparaiso under the lights Friday night. Kreiser's shot was a strong left-footed effort from four yards outside of the box, hitting just inside the left corner of the net.

With the win, the Dons improve their record to 5-3-3, while remaining undefeated at home. The Dons also pitched their third shutout on home soil, disposing the Crusaders (5-3-1).

San Francisco came out stronger in the second half, keeping the majority of the possession in the Crusaders defending half.

The first 45 minutes remained a scoreless stalemate, 0-0, as the Crusaders outshot the Dons 6-2.

Mackenzie Krieser led the green and gold with four shots on the night, while sophomore goalkeeper Emily Murzinski made her 2012 debut, recording four saves. Freshman goalkeeper Madalyn Shiffel entered Friday's match ranked seventh in the nation with 62 saves, but missed her first game in her young career due to a concussion.

Possession between the two teams stayed an approximate 50 percent as neither side held the ball at midfield in the first half.  Valparaiso's goalkeeper Kristen Manski was unchallenged in the first half as both credited shots by USF went wide of the net.

Next Saturday the women's team faces San Diego at home at 1:00 p.m. USF Athletics will be giving away collapsible water bottles courtesy of Shane Co. to the first 1,000 fans. In addition, Saturday's contest will also be a WCC REPRESENT game.
