Just the Facts, Ma'am
-
San Francisco (8-9, 1-3 WCC) took care of its home court to notch its first West Coast Conference win of the season on Saturday. The Dons look to gain momentum from the win over Portland as the team takes to the road against a Loyola Marymount team that has lost its last three games after opening WCC action with a victory over Pepperdine to start the new year.
-
Tied in conference record, the Dons hold a one-game overall advantage on the Tigers after USF posted its best opening to a season since 2007-08. In that campaign the Dons finished with its last double-digit win tally with a 14-16 record.
Devine's Dimes
-
"Gersten Pavilion holds a special place in Lady Dons history! San Francisco won the 1997 West Coast Conference Championship game at "Hank's House" that year, beating Portland in overtime. The game marked the third-straight year San Francisco and Portland faced each other in the WCC Final. Gersten holds a special place in my heart... It's the first building where I ever called a road game for USF, and Thursday will be my 20th broadcast in the building!" - USF play-by-play man, George Devine on LMU
Know the Foe
-
The Lions are paced by two double-digit scorers in upperclassmen Alex Cowling (16.0 ppg) and Hazel Ramirez (13.0 ppg). The pair account for 43 percent of the Lions' offense on the season.
-
Loyola Marymount is in the midst of a three-game losing streak that includes two overtime losses. The Lions have been tied at the end of regulation on three occasions this season and have dropped each of these contests (at New Mexico State on Nov. 12, 2012; vs. Saint Mary's Jan. 15; at San Diego State Jan. 12).
USF and Loyola Marymount—The Series
-
The Dons hold an ever-so-slight 29-28 advantage in the all-time season series that dates back to 1984. Last season, the two teams met thrice, including a WCC tournament game which the Lions came away as 66-60 victors in the first round. In that contest, Alicia Scafidi posted a then-career high of 12 points to lead the USF scoring.
Portland Remix
-
The Dons got to the line an eye-popping 43 times in the game, connecting on 30 attempts. USF senior Mel Khlok hit 14-of-18 of her attempts from the stripe to set a new career high in attempts and makes. She picked up her first career double-double against the Pilots, nabbing 11 rebounds, another career high, to go with a team-leading 27 points.
-
Taylor Proctor finished with 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including hitting four 3-pointers for the second consecutive game.
-
The Dons led by as many as 23 points with 13:23 remaining in the contest. Portland cut it to a one-possession game with 2:55 to play before the Dons closed with effective free throw shooting to ice the Pilots and earn the win.
