SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Francisco men's tennis team opened the 2013 spring season Sunday with a dominant 7-0 victory over visiting Sonoma State at the Cal Club.
USF dropped just one set on the day, with San Francisco's lone nationally-ranked singles player, No. 98
Thai Tu, overcoming a 3-6 loss in the first frame before rebounding to take the next two sets, 6-0 and 10-5, over Seawolves senior Matt Roberts.
Freshman
Nils Skajaa picked up a singles point with an authoritative victory in his first career dual match, posting back-to-back 6-1 scores out of the No. 3 spot in the lineup for the Dons.
“It was a great start for us considering where were last season,” said head coach
Peter Bartlett. “It's always good just to get one under the belt and work on some of the things that had been coming up in practice that week. It was good competition but our guys handled the victory with a lot of poise."
USF returns to the court at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, as it takes on the Pacific Tigers (1-0) in Stockton, Calif.
