SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco men's tennis team closed out the fifth Battle in the Bay Classic with a resounding 8-2 doubles victory Sunday at the California Tennis Club.
Junior Bernardo Saraiva and sophomore Nils Skajaa earned the doubles title as the No. 2 seed in the bracket. After besting two opponents on Saturday, the duo faced off with a familiar foe in the No. 1-seeded team from San Diego State. Going up against Thorsten Bertch and Hunter Nicholas for the second time in as many weeks, Saravia and Skajaa exacted revenge on the pair that knocked them out of the ITA All-American consolation quarterfinals.
In Tulsa, Okla., Bertch and Nicholas came away with the 8-4 win, but on the courts in San Francisco Saraiva and Skajaa dominated to nab the title after a decisive 8-2 victory as the lone representatives of USF to make it to the final day of competition.
On Saturday, Saraiva was defeated in the main draw's round of 16, while Rich Van Hout and Thomas Takemoto both fell in the consolation quarterfinal round of the singles bracket.
Next on the slate for the Dons is the ITA Regional Tournament, Oct. 18 through 21, in Moraga, Calif.
