
Dons Tie for Fourth at Cowgirl Invitational

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- USF's quest for its second team title in four fall events fell just short today, as the Dons tied for fourth at the Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational which was contested at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
The Dons shot a final round team score of 309 and finished with a 54-hole team score of 913 (+49), tying Western Carolina for fourth place.
Cal State Fullerton (909) earned a one stroke victory over Cal State-Northridge to claim the team title.Rollins College finished third at 912 as the top five teams were separated by four strokes or less.
Cal Poly's Taylor Yoshitake and Clariss Guce of CS Northridge tied for medalist honors at 213, but Yoshitake was awarded the individual title by virture of a scorecard playoff.
The team title was there for the taking for USF, however only one player managed to post a score under 77 over the final 18 holes of the tournament.
Freshman Alison Lillie tied for 13th at 227 after shooting a seven-over 79 on Sunday.
Sophomore Emelie Lundstrom struggled to final round 80 and tied for 17th place at 227 (+12).
Sophomore Clare Sorensen turned in the team's lowest round of the day with a 2-over 73 and vaulted 23 spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 25th at 230 (+14).
Senior Peppiina Kaija shot a final round 82 and finished tied for 41st at 234 (+18) while freshman Ayaka Suzuki tied for 57th at 238 after shooting a final round 77.
USF will open its spring season at Stanford's Peg Barnard Invitational in February.
