SAN FRANCISCO -- Head coach Rex Walters has never been one to mince words. Following USF's 93-90 overtime loss to Idaho State on Monday night in Memorial Gymnasium - the Dons second setback in a row - Walters gave an honest assessment of his team's performance.

"This is the most disappointed I've ever been as a coach," said Walters. "I need to reevaluate what we are doing defensively. I'm obviously not getting the message across to guard the basketball and keep the other team out of the paint."

Idaho State's Chris Hansen scored a game-high 33 points, Tomas Sanchez added 24 and Andre Hatchett finished with 20 to pace the Bengals to their second win of the season. Idaho State also shot 50 percent from the floor and made 25-of-35 free throws to hand the Dons their second straight loss after two wins to open the year.

Chris Adams made 7-of-12 three-pointers for a career-high 21 points to lead five Dons in double-figures. Mark Tollefsen added 18 to go along with a career-high 11 rebounds.

USF made a school-record 17 three-pointers in 46 attempts. The Dons managed to get to the line just 12 times compared to 35 for the Bengals.

USF found itself trailing by four points at 80-76 with 1:37 left in regulation, but a tip-in by Kruize Pinkins and a layup by Cody Doolin tied the game at 80 with 1:10 left on the clock. The Dons took a 82-80 lead when Pinkins followed up a Matt Glover miss with :26 left in regulation.

Sanchez tied the game with a layup with 3.2 seconds left and the game went into overtime when Doolin missed an off-balanced layup as time expired.

Doolin got USF off on the right foot in overtime, hitting a three-pointer and after a three-pointer by Avry Holmes - the Dons 17th of the night - USF had a 90-86 lead with 1:55 left.

However, Idaho State scored the last seven points of the game - all from the foul line - to had the Dons a disappointing loss on their home floor.

USF trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, the last time at 25-13 with 11:14 left. Adams hit three 3-pointers to ignite a 15-3 USF run that tied the game at 28 with 6:32 left in the first half. He added two more treys to help the Dons build a 10-point lead at 44-34 before taking a five-point cushion into halftime, 44-39.

The Dons led by as many as nine points in the second half at 57-48 with 15:49 left but the Bengals used a 15-6 run to tie the game at 63 with 10:27 left. The Idaho State lead would grow to seven points at 73-66 with 4:55 left and it wasn't until there were :26 left that the Dons managed to tie the game at 80 all on Doolin layup.

Rex Walters' Postgame Quotes

"Tip your hat to Idaho State - they deserved it. They played harder, smarter and played more together than we did."

"We had a hard time in getting the ball to what we call the sweet spot on the floor - the high-post, low-post and the short corner. We don't respect the game. This game will bring you to your knees if you don't respect it."

"We are awful defensively. We're not good on the ball or on the backside. I'm beside myself. At some point we are going to have to take some pride in guarding the basketball."

"For us not to show up tonight is so disappointing."
