Just the Facts, Ma'am

The University of San Francisco women's basketball team opens West Coast Conference play on the road, travelling to Bay Area rival Santa Clara for the final game of 2013.

The Dons are looking to build on momentum gained from a dominating record-setting performance in USF's 76-47 drubbing of Fresno State in the team's last time on the court.

Fresno State Remix

With swarming defense and sweltering shooting from the paint, USF dismantled Fresno State 74-47 on the road to cap non-conference play before the holiday break.

Sophomore Taylor Proctor led the USF scoring charge with 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting, nine rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal. Fellow second-year player Zhane Dikes added 16 points in the contest, and Taj Winston and Jamie Katuna both added eight points for the Dons.

USF's 59.3 percent shooting in the game marks a new school record, besting the previous team-high of .590 shooting versus Oral Roberts, set over 27 years ago, on Nov. 29, 1986.

What 2 Watch 4

The Dons sport a 5-6 record heading into the opening contest in WCC action. USF has four women averaging double-digit scoring at the conclusion of the non-conference slate. Rachel Howard, a freshman from Berkeley, Calif., narrowly leads the charge, posting 12.7 points per game on .437 shooting.

Zhané Dikes adds 12.5 points per game, Taj Winston puts up 11.5 per contest, and Taylor Proctor's 11.3 points a game rounds out USF's double-digit scorers. Proctor paces the team in rebounding, notching 8.0 boards a night for the Green & Gold.

Know the Foe - Santa Clara

The Broncos are averaging 68.7 points per game on 40.7 percent shooting from the field, but hit only 25.6 percent of its attempts from long-range. Nici Gilday leads Santa Clara with 14.0 points per game. Vanessa Leo's 6.7 rebounds per contest paces the team after non-conference play.

USF & Santa Clara - The Series

Santa Clara leads the all-time series 47-35
USF's record vs. the Broncos • At home: 20-18 • Away: 14-26 • Neutral: 1-3
Last win at SCU: Feb. 20, 2003 - 69-67
Last win in series: Feb. 20, 2010 - 58-52 at USF
Current streak: The Dons have lost last seven vs. the Broncos, including a narrow 69-64 defeat in the last meeting between the two.
Fun fact: USF's first win in school history came against the Broncos, during the 1976-77 season.
Last time out: The tightly contested battle in which eight players posted double-digit scoring went down to the wire after Alexa Hardick's 3-pointer with 1:06 remaining put the score at 65-64 in favor of the visiting Broncos. Santa Clara's Raquel Avila scored the last four points of the contest to ice the game as the Broncos escaped War Memorial Gym with the win.

Devine's Dimes

"You never know what to expect when the Dons and Broncos meet. USF probably preserved their post-season aspirations with an overtime win at Santa Clara in '97!

"That victory came one night after Saint Mary's upset of the Dons in Moraga. That loss to the Gaels took USF out of the driver's seat in their race with Portland, so getting the OT win proved to be huge on San Francisco's way to a third NCAA berth in as many years." - Devine on the Broncos

On the Horizon

USF's conference opening game on the road is the first of three on the week, as the Dons next travel to Loyola Marymount (Jan. 2 • 7 p.m.) and Pepperdine (Jan 4. • 2 p.m.) to open the New Year.
