Just the Facts, Ma'am
The University of San Francisco women's basketball team returns home to kick off the month of December after a Turkey Day in San Luis Obispo. The Dons continue the non-conference grind hosting UNLV on the Hilltop.

USF is coming off a 2012-13 campaign in which the team finished 12-19 overall (4-12 WCC). Continuing to make progress in the rebuilding process, Jennifer Azzi's team earned its best record and first double-digit win tally since 2007-08.

Tournament Remix
USF split a pair of games at the Cal Poly Holiday Beach Classic, taking a neutral site victory against UC Davis before falling to the tournament hosts.

Freshman Rachel Howard was named to the All-Tournament team after pacing USF in scoring in both contests, dropping in 17 points in the Dons' win over the Aggies, including the game-winning 3-pointer. She went for 18 points on7-of-12 shooting and added a team-high four assists in the tournament's final game.

What 2 Watch 4
The Dons sport a 2-4 record heading into the final month of 2013. After her stellar weekend, Rachel Howard stands as the team's leading scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game on .449 shooting. Also adding double-digit scoring efforts are Taj Winston (13.2 ppg) and Zhané Dikes (11.0 ppg). Freshman Claudia Price leaps for a team-high 7.3 rebounds a night to pace the Dons.

Jamie Katuna, a junior from Longmont, Colo., cracks the WCC top 3 in two categories: 3-point percentage (.583 - 1st) and free throw percentage (.857 - 3rd).

Know the Foe - UNLV
UNLV is paced by four double-digit scorers, with Alana Cesarz leading the way. The junior from Delavan, Wisc., averages 12.4 points per game on .413 shooting.

The Rebels and Dons have a multitude of common opponents on the docket with UNLV's wins coming against Santa Clara and CS Bakersfield, and losses to BYU and Fordham. The Rebels enter on a three-game slide after dropping a pair of matches in the Lady Rebel Round-Up over Thanksgiving weekend.

USF and UNLV - The Series
The Dons hold a 4-2 series advantage over the Lady Rebels, in a sporadic series that dates back to the 1979-80 season. The Dons won the first three meetings of the series, including two games in Las Vegas. Friday will mark the first game between USF and UNLV since 2001, and the fourth-straight contest between the two at War Memorial Gym.

Devine's Dimes
"The 1996 game against UNLV is an easy one for me to remember because it happened to be my first as the Dons' broadcaster. USF hired me 36 hours before tipoff from a field of eight finalists. When I arrived at War Memorial Gymnasium, I met UNLV's broadcaster, Bob Blum. I asked how long he'd been calling games, and the next thing you know he's telling me how he called games for Santa Clara and San Jose State when both schools played football against USF in the 40's and 50's! Bob made me feel very welcome into the broadcaster' fraternity.

"Our paths crossed again in 2012 when I called a first-round WNIT game for Saint Mary's and Bob happened to be at the other end of the table from me. Unfortunately, Bob passed away a few months later. I feel honored to work in the same profession as an outstanding broadcaster, a WWII patriot and a gentleman!"

DISHING AND SWISHING:
Jump Around

USF's Paige Spietz has been solid on the jump, earning the Dons the first possession of all but two games thus far on the year, including exhibitions.

Sixth Woman
Junior Jamie Katuna closed out the first month of the season on a tear, shooting 57.7 percent from the field and averaging 9.8 points a game off the bench. She is 7-of-12 on the season from beyond the arc and stands at 12-for-14 from the line after four games, finding herself in the WCC's top three in both categories.

On the Horizon
USF continues its two-game homestand with a Wednesday tussle against Cal State Bakersfield at 7 p.m. Then, the Dons hit the road to square off with Boise State on Dec. 11.
