Just the Facts, Ma'am
-
San Francisco (11-17, 4-11 WCC) took care of business against Pepperdine on Thursday and looks forward to the opportunity to close out the regular season with a home win against Loyola Marymount as we honor seniors Bailey Barbour, Whitney Daniels and Mel Khlok. The Lions (11-17, 5-10 WCC) arrive on the Hilltop fresh off a 68-55 win over BYU that included a record-breaking night by Alex Cowling.
Sewing Seeds
-
With the WCC tournament days away from tipping off, the seeding for both USF and LMU is still in limbo. With a Dons win over LMU and a Portland loss to BYU, a three-way tie would occur. USF would leap into the sixth spot in the brackets by owning the best overall composite record between the three. If Portland upends the Cougars, the Pilots would own sixth, regardless of the USF/LMU outcome. In that scenario, USF would finish in eighth and face Pepperdine in the tournament's opening game.
Smarty Pants
-
Alicia Scafidi was selected for the WCC All-Academic team, with Alexa Hardick picking up an honorable mention nod for her work in the classroom, announced by the league office Friday.

Devine's Dimes
-
“Senior Day is always one of the highlights of the season. It's great to celebrate the contributions and commitment of the graduating student-athletes and their families.
“I've enjoyed getting to know the members of the Class of 2013. I have especially liked getting to know the players' families via our broadcast. From day one, it has been an honor to know the Barbour, Daniels, and Khlok families. Bailey's dad, they also call him Big George, told me about hoe he'd follow both his children on the hardwood via online broadcasts. I've enjoyed hearing about all the Hollywood connections from Whitney's family! Mel's dad and I always seem to spot each other in the lobby after games, and Mel tells me he's always had a passion for listening to games on the radio/computer.” — George Devine, USF play-by-play man
Know the Foe
-
The Lions are led by the WCC all-time leading scorer, Alex Cowling. Entering Saturday's contest, she has 2,166 total points, and is averaging 15.6 points a night for Loyola Marymount this season.
USF and Loyola Marymount—The Series
-
The Lions knotted the all-time series, that dates back to 1984, at 29 apiece in Los Angeles on Jan. 17. Last season, the two teams met thrice, including a WCC tournament game which the Lions came away as 66-60 victors in the first round. A first-round encounter is not in the cards this season, regardless of the outcome of this contest.
Pepperdine Remix
-
The Dons didn't grab the lead until nine seconds remained in the first half. But once the team earned the advantage they kept it—growing the margin to as many as 14 points in the second half.
-
Mel Khlok led the way for her 20th game of the season, scoring 23 points in the win. Fellow senior Bailey Barbour turned in season highs of 11 points on –of-8 shooting and six rebounds.
-
This was the first win of the year with only two double-digit scorers. USF has led at the half in each of its 11 wins this season.
