USF Wraps Up Season Against Northern Kentucky
USF (14-16, 7-9 WCC) will wrap up the 2012-13 regular season Thursday night against the Northern Kentucky Norse (11-15, 9-9 Atlantic Sun). Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in War Memorial Gymnasium.
The Dons are coming off a 61-60 overtime loss to Loyola Marymount in the second round of the WCC Tournament last Thursday, while the Norse posted a 66-62 victory over Jacksonville in its last outing on March 2.

USF's Series With Northern Kentucky
Thursday's game marks the first ever meeting between USF and Northern Kentucky. The two schools share one common opponent this season in the University of San Diego. The Norse suffered a 65-61 loss in its season opener at San Diego, while the Dons and Toreros split its season series, each winning on the other team's homecourt

Last Time Out: Takeaways From the Loyola Marymount Game
  • Dropped a 61-60 overtime decision to Loyola Marymount in the second round of the WCC Tournament last Thursday in Las Vegas.
  • The Dons had swept the season series with the Lions and entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed while the Lions were seeded ninth after a 1-15 conference showing.
  • USF shot just 38.9 percent from the field and 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from the foul line.
  • Were outrebounded 42-36 and allowed 12 offensive rebounds which led to 16 second chance points.
  • Cole Dickerson posted his 12th double-double of the season with 23 points and 18 rebounds...Mark Tollefsen added 12, including 10 in the first half.
As of Late
USF has won three of its last four games and are 7-5 over its last 12 contests following a five-game losing streak to open WCC play.  The Dons had won three straight over Loyola Marymount (61-59), vs. Pepperdine (64-58) and at San Diego (83-70) before being upended by LMU at the WCC Tournament.

The Win Total
USF's 14 wins this season marks the third-highest single-season total in five seasons under head coach Rex Walters, behind the 2011-12 (20-14) and 2010-11 (19-15) squads.

Three's Company
USF leads the WCC and ranks seventh nationally in three-point field goal percentage at 40.0 (239-597) percent.
The Dons current three-point total of 239 is tied for first on USF's all-time single-season list, equaling last year's record total. The last time USF shot 40 percent from three-point range was in 1991-92, when the Dons knocked down 41.2 percent (185-for-449) of its long distance tries.
USF has shot at a 43.5 percent clip (78-for-179) from beyond the arc over its last eight games and has made nine or more three-pointers in 13 games this season.
USF has four players - freshman Avry Holmes (1st; 49.4), De'End Parker (4th; 42.5), Chris Adams (5th; 42.5) and Cole Dickerson (6th; 42.5) -- who are ranked in the top-10 in WCC three-point field goal percentage.

Lineups
USF has used seven starting lineups of the season, with Mark Tollefsen (last four) and Avry Holmes (Pepperdine) being the last two players to draw starts.
Tollefsen is the fourth player to start in the post for USF this season, following Frank Rogers (2), Tao Xu (16) and Christiansen (8).
Cody Doolin and Cole Dickerson are the only two players to have started all 29 games this season.
Six underclassmen, including five freshmen, have earned starts at some point during the season.

Tollefsen Terrific
Redshirt freshman Mark Tollefsen is averaging 15.0 points (60 total) and is shooting 75 percent (24-for-32) in his last four games since being inserted into the starting lineup. Tollefsen is also shooting 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from three-point range in his four starts.

That Close
Of USF's 16 losses this season, 12 have been by 10 points or less, including six of the last eight which have been decided by six points or less. In six of the losses, the Dons trailed by two points with 31 seconds remaining in the game.

Deficits
USF faced double-figure deficits in 10 of its 16 conference games this season.

Home and Road
USF is 7-7 overall on its homecourt this season, including a 2-6 mark in WCC home games. The Dons are 41-20 (.667) in its last 61 home games dating back to the 2009-10 season and are 48-25 (.652) in Memorial Gymnasium in five seasons under head coach Rex Walters. The Dons are 6-5 in true road games this season, including a 5-3 road mark against WCC foes.

From the Field
After shooting a season-high 60 percent (30-for-50) from the floor at San Diego, USF cooled off and shot just 38.9 percent its last time out against Loyola Marymount in the WCC Tournament.
The Dons are 9-3 this season when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor. 
The Dons are shooting 45.8 (94-for-205) from the floor over its last four games and rank fourth in the WCC in field goal percentage at 45.2 percent.

Board Work
The Dons have been outboarded in 21 of the last 25 contests dating back to the St. John's game on Dec. 4 and rank ninth in WCC rebound average at 32.4 per game. The Dons also rank ninth in the conference in rebound margin (-2.9) and offensive rebounds (8.1).
USF is allowing 10.1 offensive rebounds a game this season.

From the Line
USF missed its first nine free throws and went 8-for-19 from the line in suffering a 61-60 overtime loss to Loyola Marymount in the WCC Tournament. USF was shooting 71.9 (244-for-339) percent from the line over its previous 19 games after converting just 61.1 percent (132-for-216) of its charity tries over the first 10 contests.
The Dons rank ninth in the WCC in free throw percentage at 66.8, which is the lowest percentage since the 2005-06 team shot 66.2 percent from the line.
USF has shot below 70 percent from the line each of the last five seasons.

Defensive Doings
USF has held its last four opponents to 62.0 points a game and have held eight opponents under the 60-point mark this season. The Dons are 7-1 in those contests, with the only loss coming at Nevada (51-59).
USF is allowing 69.1 points a game, which ranks eighth among WCC teams. Opponents are shooting 43.7 percent from the floor, which is the third highest percentage allowed in the conference. The Dons also rank ninth in the conference in blocks (2.0) and steals (5.4) per game.

Dickerson's Doubles
Cole Dickerson scored 23 points and pulled down 18 rebounds last Thursday against Loyola Marymount for his 12th double-double of the season. He has been a rebound or point away from double-doubles in five other games against Pacific (14-9), Nevada (11-9), East Tennessee State (19-9), BYU (22-9) and Saint Mary's (9-11). For the season, Dickerson is averaging 15.1 points and 9.7 rebounds a game. The last USF player to average a double-double for an entire season was Darrell Tucker, when he scored 18.9 points and grabbed 10.1 rebounds a game in 2001-02.

All-Around Game
Cole Dickerson leads the WCC in rebound average (9.7), ranks eighth in scoring (15.1), sixth in three-point field goal percentage (42.5) and ninth in field goal percentage (47.7).

Doolin's Dimes
Junior point guard Cody Doolin ranks third in the WCC and 35th nationally in assists per game (5.6). Doolin's career assist total now stands at 416, which ranks second on USF's all-time list behind fellow Austin, Texas-native Orlando Smart (902).
