SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's tennis team fell to the No. 6 Pepperdine Waves, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Cal Club.

The contest marked the first-ever match between the longtime conference rivals hosted by USF, as all prior meetings came in Malibu.

With Bernardo Saraiva / Nils Skajaa and Thai Tu / Germain Bahri picking up wins to seal the doubles point for USF, the Dons have now taken the doubles point in 12 of their 13 matches this season, the exception being a road match at No. 2 USC.

Sophomore Bernardo Saraiva lost his first singles match of the spring, dropping his season record to 10-1.

“We played a very good match again and put ourselves in the position to potentially win against a top 10 team today,” said USF coach Peter Bartlett. “Although we lost, our guys should still take some confidence from the fact that we are competing and getting better each match."

“I think for the first time they are starting to recognize and believe in their abilities. Even though we can't point to the 'W' column in this case we are definitely getting better as the season progresses."

The Dons return to the friendly confines of the Cal Club on Saturday afternoon when they host Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m.
