Competing in both the Stanford Invitational and the SF State Distance Carnival, the San Francisco women's track team continued its outdoor season with gusto Friday.
At Cobb Track on the campus of Stanford,
Sophie Curl turned in a Top 5 performance against some of the stiffest competition in the nation. Her blazing fast section produced five runners under the 4:20 mark, as Curl turned in a time of 4:19.81 to take fifth. This marks the first time the senior from Bellingham, Wash., has run this event in the 2013 track season.
Maor Tiyouri, a junior from Kfar Saba, Israel, paced the Dons in the 5,000 meters. Earning third place in Section 5 and leading the USF contingent of three in the event, Tiyouri finished the race in 16:42.09 to post a new collegiate best.
For the fourth-consecutive outing and sixth of the season, the women yet again broke school records.
At Stanford,
Jana Soethout's 34:07.61 in the 10,000 meters is a new USF record and stands as the 17th-best time for a woman collegian in the event this season.
In the 200 meters at Cox Stadium,
Kamilah Davis bested her previous record time by 13 hundredths with her time of 25.84 as she earned second. Her official clocked time of 25.832 proved to be five one-thousandths faster than third-place finisher. The sophomore from San Jose, Calif., also took second in the 100 meter dash, recording a time of 12.81 seconds.
Lea Lundblad, a sophomore form Haiku, Hawaii, finished with a new collegiate best in the 800 meters at the SF State Distance Carnival. Her time of 2:16.30 was good for fourth in her section and 11th overall. Another collegiate best mark was set by
Brooke McCandless, who shaved more than 30 seconds off her 5,000 meter time. The sophomore from Murrieta, Calif., finished in 17:34.54 to nab fourth in her section, and 26th overall out of 81 competitors.
The weekend's action concludes Saturday as
Sophie Curl and
