SAN FRANCISCO – Former University of San Francisco pitcher
Kyle Zimmer has been named to Baseball America's 2013 Top Prospects list. The La Jolla, Calif. native was ranked as the 24
th best prospect in the minor leagues.
Zimmer posted a 5-3 record with a 2.85 ERA and West Coast Conference-leading 104 strikeouts in 88.1 innings of work for the 2012 Dons and was an All-WCC selection.
He became the highest draft choice in the history of USF baseball when the Kansas City Royals selected him fifth overall in the 2012 MLB Draft.
Baseball America ranks prospects skills on a scale of 20-80, with 50 being equivalent to an average major league player. Zimmer rated above average in all five skills: fastball-70, curve-65, changeup-55, control-65, command-55. Baseball America also ranked his control and curveball as best in the Royals organization.
Zimmer was 3-3 with a 2.04 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 39.1 innings pitched in the minor leagues last year.
