STANFORD, Calif. – The San Francisco track contingent continued to set the standard of excellence at the Payton Jordan Invitational Sunday.
Competing in her first race of the weekend,
Sophie Curl raced to a USF best in the 1,500 meters, posting a time of 4:16.09 and finishing Section 2 in sixth place. Breaking her own record set at the 2012 NCAA Championships, Curl's time meets the “B” qualifying standard for the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held this summer in Des Moines, Iowa.
Running the 1,500 meters for the men,
Steven Garboden earned eighth in his section, clocking in at 3:45.91.
Sean Gomes ran the 800 meters in 1:54.12, his best outing of the 2013 season, to finish fourth in his section and 18th in the overall standings.
Hillary Harris posted a time of 2:11.44 in the 800 to finish sixth in her section and 27th overall. Rounding out the Dons' performances was
Eva Krchova's effort in the 5,000 meters. Running unattached, she posted a time of 16:23.43 to finish fifth in her section. This marks the first time Krchova has run this distance competitively.
“It was a great day at the Payton Jordan,” said an enthusiastic
Helen Lehman-Winters on her team. “I am very pleased with how Garboden, Gomes and Harris doubled back this evening after competing at the Brutus Hamilton earlier this weekend. Sophie continues to make huge strides competitively and was impressive this evening.”
The Dons are next slated to compete Saturday at the Sacramento State Open at Hornet Stadium.
