SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of San Francisco men's tennis team began its three-match road trip on a sour note Friday afternoon, falling to No. 42 San Diego, 6-1, at the Hogan Tennis Center.
The Dons opened the day by taking the doubles point for the 13
th-consecutive time and the 15
th time in 16 matches. USF could not muster a singles win, however, despite tough battles from
Thai Tu and
Bernardo Saraiva at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Saraiva's defeat marked just the second time the sophomore from Lisbon, Portugal has lost this spring. His only other defeat came on March 29, when Pepperdine's Finn Tearney triumphed in a three-set affair.
Tu and
Germain Bahri won in their debut at No. 2 doubles for USF. The tandem is now a perfect 7-0 since first being paired at No. 3 doubles on March 17 against Iowa.
The Dons return to the Bay Area for their final two road matches of the season, beginning on Wednesday, April 10 at Saint Mary's and wrapping up on Saturday, April 13 at Santa Clara.
