SAN FRANCISCO -- University of San Francisco men's head basketball coach
Rex Walters has announced Uche Ofoegbu, a 6-4, 200-pound forward who played last season at Southern Methodist, will transfer to USF and be eligible for the 2014-15 season.
Ofoegbu totaled 16 points, 40 rebounds, eight assists, four blocks and six steals in 27 games as a freshman for the Mustangs last season. He scored a season-high four points on three occasions and had a season-high four rebounds in 12 minutes of action at Houston on Jan. 9.
Ofoegbu graduated from John Paul Stevens High School in San Antonio, Texas where he played for head coach Michael Raynes. He was an all-state (5A), all-district and all-region selection as a senior after he averaged 21 points a game for the Falcons. As a junior, Ofoegbu averaged 19.9 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals while shooting 53 percent from the floor.
“We are really excited to have Uche join our program,” said Walters. “Uche comes from a great and proud basketball family and I'm looking forward to them all being part of our University and basketball program. He brings great size, skill and athleticism to the wing position and I feel his best basketball is ahead of him. Although he has to sit out this season, he will be a big contributor in our practice sessions this season as he gets ready for the 2014-15.”
