LAWRENCE, Kan.—The Dons were able to fight through sweltering conditions on Sunday afternoon and used a first half goal to beat Kansas 1-0 in the finale of the Kansas Invitational.

"We hung on," Head Coach Jim Millinder said. "You got to do that on the road. It's a good result for us. We're getting better with every outing."

Kansas (3-4-1) had early opportunities to get on the board and the best came in the 33rd minute when Jamie Fletcher took a header off a corner kick but had the attempt saved by Madalyn Schiffel.

USF (5-2-0) had a chance of its own and took advantage. In the 38th minute, Katherin Woodrum found Kelsey Moe off a corner kick for the goal. It is Moe's first goal of the season.

The Dons totaled six corner kicks in the first half.

Kansas had another chance late in the second half when in the 80th minute Caroline Kastor had her shot saved by Schiffel and the rebound shot from Haley Yearout went high.

Schiffel recorded eight saves against Kansas and her fourth shutout of the season.

USF was able to limit the chances for the host team Kansas and that was a result of the play of the back four on defense, which included Ally Beck who made her first career start.

"She was terrific," Millinder said of Beck. "We're starting to mature as a team and that's important if you're going to have success."

Jaciara Mello, Ali Schaffer, and Halle Bissin earned all-tournament honors over the weekend.

The win over Kansas is the first win over a Big 12 team since 2001 when USF defeated Colorado 2-1.

The Dons split their two matches in Kansas, dropping the opener to Nebraska 3-0. USF will return home before making a trip to Oregon to take on Oregon and Portland State.
