SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons look to rebound after a tough weekend in the Sacramento region when they play a stout Cal Poly team in Southern California on Friday.
Â
Cal Poly (4-2-0) has an impressive list of preseason opponents that has included trips to then-No. 6 Creighton, then-No. 6 UCLA, and West Coast Conference foe Gonzaga. The Mustangs also came into the week with a vote for this week's NCAA Top 25.
Â
Cal Poly is coming off two straight wins and has scored nine goals in the two matches. The most recent was a 6-1 drubbing of San Jose State.
Â
Cal Poly scored the first four goals of the match and put the match well out of reach early. Matt Lagrassa and Ari Lassiter scored two goals apiece against the Spartans on Sunday
Â
USF has not met the Mustangs since 2000 when they won 3-1 in the Diadora Classic at Negoesco Stadium.
Â
It will be a homecoming of sorts for goalkeeper
Chase Hauser, who transferred to San Francisco from Cal Poly over the spring. Hauser started eight games for the Mustangs in 2012 and allowed seven goals while compiling a 6-2 record.
Â
This season, the junior has started three matches and has allowed two goals in those matches.
Â
It is also the final preseason match for the Dons and they will get two weeks to prepare for the beginning of WCC play, which starts on Oct. 4 when USF returns home to host Portland and Gonzaga.
