SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The San Francisco women's tennis team dominated UC Santa Barbara on its home courts, coming away with a decisive 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon.
After a rain delay stalled the start of the match, the Dons got straight to business, taking each point of the day to earn its second shutout of the dual match season. With the win, USF improves to 4-0 on the season, while UC Santa Barbara falls to 0-2 after losing its home opener.
In doubles competition, the duo of
Andrea Ka and
Marina Nikolic partnered together to notch its fourth win of the year as a tandem, beating the Gauchos pair of Paola Cos and Jaimee Gilbertson, 6-3.
Milica Hadzi-Tanovic and Geneveive McCloskey took their match at the No. 3 position to give USF the doubles point on the day.
In singles action, the Dons swept through all six matches with only one going to a third set.
Brooke Irish, a sophomore from Pleasant Valley, Calif., fended off UCSB freshman Melissa Baker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2, to keep the Dons' clean sheet on the day. The shutout is the second of the young season for the Dons who have started the 2014 campaign with one of the program's best starts in recent history.
The Dons face a stout challenge ahead in the No. 8 California Bears. The match is slated for Friday at 1:30 p.m., in Berkeley, Calif.
