SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco women's basketball team entered Saturday without a blemish on its home record in more than eight months, but Pacific's hot shooting from the start doomed the Dons. The Tigers opened West Coast Conference action with the 92-54 win Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Gym.
Both teams now stand at 9-3 on the season, and the loss on USF's home court is the first since Feb. 14, 2014, a string of nine games spanning portions of two seasons. USF was led by a pair of 13-point outings from the junior tandem of
Taylor Proctor and
Zhane Dikes.
Taj Winston added an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Dons, her first of the season.
Pacific's Kendall Kenyon paced all performers with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, 15 rebounds and six blocks. All three figures represent season highs for the senior from Stockton.
The Dons opened the contest with the first three points of the day after a steal by Dikes was converted into a layup on the break. After missing their next five shots from the field, Pacific gained the lead and held a 10-5 advantage with 14:59 remaining in the period. Â As the Tigers rolled to 54.3 percent shooting in the half and a 7-of-12 effort from 3-point range, USF's icy start persisted. The Dons managed just 31.3 percent shooting from the field compiling 25 first half points.
At the halftime break, Pacific held a 50-25 advantage, and the lead continued to grow for the Tigers in the second as GeAnna Luaulu-Summers' 3-pointer with 1:03 to play gave the visitors the 90-50 lead, the largest margin of the game. Pacific's hot hand from three was on display throughout the contest, as the Tigers connected on 5-of-9 attempts from long range during the contest. Finishing the afternoon 12-of-21 from three, their 57.1 percent success rate stands as a new opponent game high on the year.
Next, the Dons close out the calendar year as the team faces off with Saint Mary's Monday at 7 p.m.Â
