Final Results
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- USF shot a final round 292 (+4) to finish ninth at The Farms Intercollegiate Invitational held in Rancho Santa Fe.
The Dons' final round 292 was the third-best round of the day and moved the team three spots up the leader board into ninth place.
Host San Diego captured the team title with a final 54-hole score of 860, 14 strokes clear of Kennesaw State (874). Loyola Marymount (883), Pacific (884) and Duke (310) rounded out the top five.
Grant Forrest of San Diego defeated Kennesaw State's Jimmy Beck on the first playoff hole to claim medalist honors.
Junior Jobim Carlos shot a final round 73 to tie for 17th place at 222 (+6). Carlos was 3-under on his round after making a birdie on his 16th hole of the day, but a quadruple bodgey 8 on the par-4 17th led to a 1-over round of 73.
Senior Cory McElyea shot the team's lowest score of the day, finishing with a 1-under 71. He birdied the final hole to finish in red numbers for the day, placing him in a tie for 24th place at 224 (+8).
Sebastian Crookall-Nixon tied for 38th at 228 after shooting a 3-over 75 in his final round. Crookall-Nixon opened his round with three straight bogeys and also bogeyed the eighth hole before playing his final 10 holes at 1-under par.
Freshman Max Alcorn was also in the log jam of players at 228 after carding a final round 77. Alcorn got off to a promising start with a birdie on the first hole but made the turn at 3-over. He had eight pars and a double bogey on the backside to finish with a 77.
Emil Liljeroth tied for 46th at 229. The junior was 4-over par after 14 holes but birdied three out of his last four holes for a 1-over 73.
USF will return to action at the Wyoming Desert Invitational, to held Feb. 21-23 at The Classic Club in Palm Desert.
