Just the Facts, Ma'am

The University of San Francisco women's basketball team is flying high after a 78-74 victory over San Diego Thursday and hopes to keep momentum rolling against BYU. In the last two seasons, the Dons and Cougars have split the season series.

What 2 Watch 4

The Dons head into Thursday's contest with players producing at least 10 points per game. Taylor Proctor's 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game paces the Dons with Zhané Dikes (12.2 ppg), Taj Winston (10.7 ppg, 1.7 spg)  and Rachel Howard (10.5 ppg) adding to the USF offense. In the second half of the WCC slate, the Dons are 2-1 facing opponents on the back half of the home-and-home series.

Know the Foe - BYU

BYU is paced by double-double machine, Jennifer Hamson. The 6-7 senior posts 17.6 points and 11.1 rebounds a night to go along with 4.0 blocks per game. Hamson's block tally leads not only the WCC, but also all of NCAA Division I.

Offensively, she is helped by Lexi Eaton (16.7 ppg), Kim Beeston (11.4 ppg) and Morgan Bailey (10.3 ppg). The Cougars lead the league in assists with seven players averaging over one assist a game.

San Diego Remix

USF's Zhané Dikes scored 12 points from the field to go along with 16 swishes from the stripe to lead the Dons to victory. Her career-high 28 points helped USF topple the Toreros as four Dons scored in double figures. Paige Spietz added a career-high 17 points and Taylor Proctor added 12. Taj Winston's 11 points went along with four big blocks and three steals as the team rolled to the win.

Second Time is Sweeter
The Dons have a 2-1 record in the second half of the WCC slate, knocking off Portland on the road and then taking care of San Diego at War Memorial Gym. In the victory over the Toreros, the Dons posted their first home halftime lead of the season. The last time USF led at the break was in a win at Pepperdine Jan. 4.

Down 20? No Problem!
USF came back from a 22-2 start at Portland to earn the win on a last-second basket and free throw from Taylor Proctor. The Dons were down 13 at halftime and nabbed their first lead of the game with 7:18 to play. USF has now posted five come-from-behind wins overcoming deficits of at least 10 points.

On the Air

Listen to Joe Castellano take a turn as voice of the Dons as USF takes on BYU. Filling in for George Devine, Castellano broadcast Siena College Men's Basketball for four years and called NCAA men's and women's basketball for Westwood One Radio Network. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics he was the women's basketball announcer for Westwood One. Castellano is currently a play-by-play announcer for Comcast and hosts a San Francisco Giants podcast called "Inside China Basin" on TheSportsVirus.com.
