Dons Nab Pair of Shutouts in Golden Gate Park

SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco women's tennis team recorded two shutouts to move to 10-4 on the season, taking down Youngstown State and Southern Utah Monday at Golden Gate Park.
 
The Dons won the doubles point in both matches on the day, with two tandems picking up two wins on the day. Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic recorded 8-2 wins in both doubles matches, and Milica Hadzi-Tanovic and Brooke Irish paired up for two wins as well, both from the No. 3 position.
 
In singles action, USF continued to dominate. In the first match of the day, the Dons swept every match, despite going three sets in three of the singles bouts.  It took come-from behind efforts for Ka and Nikolic to prevail, after falling behind after the first set. But both did indeed reign victorious, with Ka recdoring a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Margarita Sadovnikova from the No. 1 position and Nickolic getting the 3-6 7-6(3), 10-6 win against Dominika Lackova.
 
Posting another shutout in the second match of the day, USF again took the doubles point before Thyra Taune, Hadzi-Tanovic and Irish secured singles victories to close with a combined 11-0 score against both opponents. Each singles point earned against the Thunderbirds came in straight sets. With the pair of non-conference victories, USF stands at 10-4 on the season.
 
After more than a week away from the courts, the Dons meet up with Southern California foes Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine. The Dons take on the Lions March 19 at The Olympic Club before facing off with the 38th-ranked Waves March 21 at 10 a.m., at Olympic.
