LOS ANGELES – The San Francisco men's tennis team fell just short at Loyola Marymount, as the Dons dropped a 5-2 decision to the Lions at the LMU Tennis Center Saturday.

Intense battles were seen up and down the lineup, starting with doubles play to open the match. The first duo to close out was USF's James Tallman and Germain Bahri, who breezed by Luke Bohuslav and Daniel Simko, 8-2. The next pair to finish for the Dons was Christian Brockstedt and Thomas Takemoto. The USF tandem held a lead deep in the action before eventually succumbing 8-5 from the No. 3 position to leave the point in limbo.

The No. 1 pair of Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa competed to the finish before falling 8-6 to Loyola Marymount's Sebastian Bustamante and Todd Volmari. With the Lions up 1-0 heading into singles play, the hosts nabbed the next to points to send the match to the brink.

The Dons stayed alive after Bahri went to work from the No. 6 position. The senior from Gosselies, Belgium, knocked off Bohuslav 6-4, 6-4 to give USF a spark. But Thomas Takemoto's 6-2, 6-2 defeat from the No. 3 spot followed as the Lions clinched the match.

Saraiva added another point to the Dons' tally from the featured match of the day, as he downed Davis Doehring 6-4, 6-1. The last match to conclude was an extra-set tiebreaker between Brockstedt and Othar Kordsachia. After USF's freshman from Aarhus, Denmark, took the first set 6-1, his adversary from Loyola Marymount battled back to finish the second, 7-6. The deciding set went to a final score of 13-11 with LMU's Kardsachia outlasting Brockstedt.

With the setback the Dons move to 8-10 on the season and remain winless in West Coast Conference action. The Lions now stand at 9-3 (1-2 WCC).

After playing four matches in six days, two of which were against ranked opponents, the Dons earn a week of rest. Up next is a matchup at UC Santa Barbara next Sunday.
