SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons dug a deep hole in the first inning and were unable to climb out as they fell to No. 7 Oregon 12-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

Jordan Haseltine got his first start of the season but quickly got into trouble. In the first inning, he walked the bases loaded, hit the next batter and then A.J. Balta had a one-out single to drive in two as Oregon took a 3-0 lead. After a pitching change, Matt Narahara forced in a run with another walk and a wild pitch.

The Ducks scored five runs on one hit and five walks in the first inning.

The Dons (12-11, 2-4 WCC) split the two games with Oregon and will be back at Benedetti Diamond on Friday as they begin a three-game series against WCC preseason favorite San Diego.

The Dons got a couple of runs back in the bottom half of the inning. After a single by Nico Giarratano and a double from Bradley Zimmer, Derek Atkinson singled to center to drive home both and the Dons cut the lead to 5-2.

Oregon (18-6, 5-1 Pac-12) got single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings and took a commanding 8-2 lead.

The Dons finally strung some hits together in the seventh. After back-to-back singles by Brendan Hendriks and Bob Cruikshank, Justin McCullough doubled off the net, plating Hendriks. Michael Eaton chipped in with a sacrifice fly to make it 10-5.
