SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Mirroring their regular season result against Gonzaga just over a week ago, the San Francisco women's tennis team swept the Bulldogs to open its run through the West Coast Conference Championships Wednesday afternoon.

The sixth-seeded Dons earned a 4-0 victory over the No. 7 Bulldogs to extend its winning streak to five. With its seventh shutout of the season, USF improves its record to 16-7 and advances to the conference quarterfinals.

USF found itself behind early in the afternoon after Gonzaga's No. 3 pair of Katie Edwards and Alexandra Tallas earned the 8-2 victory. But USF roared back as the Dons' top duo and All-WCC performers Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic evened the battle for the doubles point. Ka and Nikolic notched their 12th straight win after downing Kylie Peek and Samantha Polayes, 8-3. Playing to clinch the point, USF's duo of Sofia Holmberg and Thyra Taune scrapped to an 8-7(2) victory to give the Dons the early lead in the match.

As singles play commenced, Nikolic opened the action with a straight-set win over Tallas, and Ka followed with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Peek from the No. 1 position. Genevieve McCloskey, a freshman from Perth, Australia, stepped into the No. 6 position and clinched the match. McCloskey's 7-6(7), 6-2 win over Isabell Klingert gave USF its fourth point to seal the victory. It was just McCloskey's eighth time on the court for the Dons in singles play.

With the resounding win, USF advances to the quarterfinal round to face off with third-seeded Saint Mary's. The Dons square off with the Gaels, ranked No. 44 by ITA Tennis, Thursday from the Barnes Tennis Center. First serve between the Bay Area foes is slated for 12:30 p.m.
