SAN DIEGO – The San Francisco women's tennis team closed its solid 2014 campaign Thursday in the West Coast Conference Championship Quarterfinals at Barnes Tennis Center. After a solid opening-round win, the Dons succumbed to Bay Area foe Saint Mary's, ranked No. 44 by ITA Tennis, by a final score of 4-0.

USF closes the season with a 16-8 mark in dual match action, winning five of its last six outings, while the third-seeded Gaels advance to the semifinal round  to take on BYU after knocking off the No. 6-seeded Dons.

Saint Mary's opened the day making quick work of the doubles point, taking victories in the Nos. 2 and 3 pairs. USF's top tandem of Andrea Ka and Marina Nikolic, an All-WCC first team doubles selection, were leading 7-5 when play was stopped.

As singles play commenced, Saint Mary's played to straight-set wins in the Nos. 1, 5, and 6 positions to close the match with a 4-0 final tally. First, Jade Frampton took a point from Brooke Irish, playing up a position as the No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Then, No. 121 Andrea Ka couldn't hold off Saint Mary's top netter Jenny Jullien, ranked ninth in the nation. The Gaels closed the match on court six, as Parminder Kaur defeated Genevieve McCloskey, 6-0, 6-4.

The three remaining matches on the court favored the Dons when play was stopped after Thyra Taune and Sofia Holmberg picked up first-set wins and Nikolic stretched her match to a third set.
Reaching the 16-victory plateau, two more than a season ago, the Dons earned back-to-back winning seasons on the Hilltop. The youthful squad is expected to return its full complement for the 2014-15 season. With no seniors, the Dons roster will feature back-to-back first team All-WCC selection in Ka, USF's second-straight WCC Freshman of the Year, Thyra Taune, and a No. 1 doubles tandem that notched 12 consecutive victories to close the season with All-WCC accolades.
