Match No. 6
San Francisco Dons (4-1-0) at Cal Poly Mustangs (4-1-1)
Friday, September 19, 2014 • 8 p.m.
Alex G. Spanos Stadium • San Luis Obispo, Calif.
All-time record vs. Cal Poly: 4-1-0

SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons continue to roll on after sweeping their first weekend at home, including a win over a Top 25 team, and now hit the road again aiming for their fourth straight win when they take on Big West power Cal Poly on Friday night.

San Francisco has not lost since the opening weekend of the season when they lost at UIC 1-0. If the Dons were to win, it would mark the program's first four-game winning streak since 2011 when they won four straight from Sept. 25 to Oct. 5.

LAST TIME OUT
The Dons jumped on Central Arkansas early but were unable to break into the scoring column until the second half when in the 62nd minute Manny Padilla dished to Jesus Del Toro on the right wing who then found a streaking Sixto Porras at the foot of the goal for the score, giving USF a 1-0 lead. The Dons sealed the win with an 89th minute goal from Miguel Aguilar, his third of the season.

TOUGH PRESEASON SLATE CONTINUES
The Dons have faced one of the more daunting preseason schedules in the nation with matches against then-No. 21 Wisconsin, now-No. 23 UIC in the opening weekend and then-No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast on Friday. They will also face defending WCC champion Loyola Marymount twice, NCAA Tournament team Stanford and Portland, who is receiving votes for the Top 25 poll.

AGUILAR CONTINUES STRONG PLAY
After scoring his first two goals of the season against Cal State Fullerton on Sept. 5, Miguel Aguilar continued that success into this past weekend as he scored the final goal of the Dons' 2-0 win over Central Arkansas. With three goals, Aguilar is the top goal scorer in the West Coast Conference and is 36th in the nation.

DEFENSE ON LOCKDOWN
While the Dons offense has come alive through the first five matches, their defense has been nearly as impressive. San Francisco recorded two shutouts over the weekend and goalkeeper Chase Hauser has been in the center of it. He holds a 0.60 goals against average, which ranks 40th in the nation.

TAKING DOWN THE TOP 25
The Dons have posted wins over No. 21 Wisconsin to open the season and beat No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast on Friday night. The two wins over Top 25 teams marks the first time the program has accomplished the feat since 2011 when they beat No. 18 Santa Clara and No. 25 Portland in consecutive matches.

GROUNDING THE EAGLES
The Dons welcomed in No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast for the team's home opener on Friday night and controlled much of the match, wearing the Eagles down. Following an FGCU red card, the Dons finally scored on a 72nd minute penalty kick by Danny Kirkland to give them a 1-0 lead. It was his second game-winner of the season and gave the Dons their second win over a Top 25 team.

TAMING THE BADGERS
The Dons got a first half goal from newcomer Davi Ramos and another goal from Danny Kirkland to take a 2-0 lead against No. 21 Wisconsin. The Badgers scored in the 81st minute but that is as close as they would get. It was the first time since 2007 the Dons had defeated a ranked opponent (2-1 vs. No. 11 California) and is the first time since 2008 they had beaten a Big Ten opponent.

RAMOS MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The North Carolina State transfer has quickly acclimated to the West Coast and, after scoring a goal in the team's scrimmage against No. 7 California, recorded his first goal as a Don in the 14th minute against No. 21 Wisconsin to put the Dons up 1-0.

SUMMER WITH MLS SQUADS
Miguel Aguilar was among a group of Dons who participated with various MLS developmental teams this summer. Aguilar spent the summer with the Portland Timbers developmental academy and played in eight games, recording a goal and an assist. Danny Kirkland and Joshua Smith were with the San Jose Earthquakes academy and gained valuable experience to bring back to the Dons this season.

ABOUT CAL POLY
The Mustangs had an eventful Sunday when they traveled to Westwood to take on No. 1 UCLA and played the top-ranked team to a scoreless draw. It was the first time all season Cal Poly had been shutout and only twice through six matches have the Mustangs been held with fewer than one goal. With four players with at least two goals, led by Chase Minter with three, Cal Poly will be a tough task for the Dons.
