SAN FRANCISCO—The Dons had a strong opening weekend, which included the upset of a Top 25 team, and continue their three-game road trip when they take on Cal State Fullerton on Friday night.

San Francisco kicked off the season in grand fashion as they upset No. 21 Wisconsin in the season opener on Friday night. While it was a moment to remember, the Dons had to rally two days later against Illinois-Chicago but came up on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision.

The win marked a number of milestones, including an impressive beginning to Eddie Soto's tenure as head coach of the USF program.

TAMING THE BADGERS
The Dons got a first half goal from newcomer Davi Ramos and another goal from Danny Kirkland to take a 2-0 lead against No. 21 Wisconsin. The Badgers scored in the 81st minute but that is as close as they would get. It was the first time since 2007 the Dons had defeated a ranked opponent (2-1 vs. No. 11 California) and is the first time since 2008 they had beaten a Big Ten opponent.

KIRKLAND EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Danny Kirkland scored on a 30-yard free kick in the 47th minute of the team's match against No. 21 Wisconsin on Friday night to give the Dons a 2-0 lead. It ended up being the game-winner as USF held on for the 2-1 victory. For his efforts, Kirkland earned West Coast Conference Player of the Week honors as well as the College Sports Madness Player of the Week award.

SOTO RETURNS HOME
Head coach Eddie Soto takes his team to Cal State Fullerton, where he spent his collegiate years. While playing for the Titans, he was a two-time All-American and led Fullerton to an NCAA semifinals appearance in 1992 and a quarterfinal appearance the following season. He is second highest scorer in the school's history with 96 points and 38 goals.

RAMOS MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The North Carolina State transfer has quickly acclimated to the West Coast and, after scoring a goal in the team's scrimmage against No. 7 California, recorded his first goal as a Don in the 14th minute against No. 21 Wisconsin to put the Dons up 1-0.

SUMMER WITH MLS SQUADS
Miguel Aguilar was among a group of Dons who participated with various MLS developmental teams this summer. Aguilar spent the summer with the Portland Timbers developmental academy and played in eight games, recording a goal and an assist. Danny Kirkland and Joshua Smith were with the San Jose Earthquakes academy and gained valuable experience to bring back to the Dons this season.

AGUILAR NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-WCC TEAM
Senior Miguel Aguilar was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team by the 10 conference coaches last week. He scored three goals last season and has been named to the All-WCC Second Team twice. As a team, the Dons were picked to finish seventh in the conference after finishing in fifth last season.

ABOUT CAL STATE FULLERTON
The Titans are usually one of the better teams in the Big West Conference but have been slated to finish last in the South Division. This does not mean it is a team to be taken lightly. The Titans lost to Illinois-Chicago this past Friday 3-2 in overtime and got a team goal and another from Amara Soumah.  The Titans are also in their first season with new head coach George Kuntz.
