STOCKTON, Calif. - A stagnant second quarter sunk the San Francisco women's basketball team as the Dons fell 70-57 to Pacific on Wednesday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The Dons were led by a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double to go along with five steals for senior Zhane Dikes, her second in the last three contests for USF. Taylor Proctor added 10 points and nine rebounds, and Claudia Price chipped in 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor in the loss.

With the loss, USF moves to 9-4 on the season and is still in search of its first West Coast Conference win while Pacific advances to 8-5, and 1-1 in league play.

During the fetid second period, USF was outscored 22-8 and the Dons committed nine turnovers. Pacific went into the break up 32-20, and the Dons were looking for answers for the Pacific duo of Hailie Eackles and Desire Finnie. The pair of Tigers scored 15 points apiece, going a combined 9-for-9 from the line in the first 20 minutes, accounting for all but one basket in the half.

USF regrouped after halftime, and cut the Pacific lead to 45-41 after Raushan Gultekin swished a pair from the free throw line with 1:31 remaining in the third period. Bringing the pressure in the fourth, USF opened with a steal for Hashima Carothers resulting in a putback for Dikes. Later, Rachel Howard's jumper from the elbow with 7:16 to play knotted the game at 49 apiece.

However, the Tigers scored the next seven to jump back out to the lead, and put together a 18-4 run to extend back to a double-digit advantage. At the final buzzer, Pacific earned the 70-57 win to turn the Dons away.

The scoring started slow in the first, with USF jumping out to the 9-7 lead after Carothers dished to Proctor for the layup with 4:08 remaining in the first. From that point, the USF defense held Pacific to 1-for-19 shooting from the floor over the next six minutes, and the Dons enjoyed the 16-10 advantage with 7:45 to play in the second. Unfortunately, the advantage evaporated quickly as the home team took control of the tempo.

Finnie finished with 25 points and nine rebounds, and Eackles scored 23 in the Paicific win. Despite outshooting the Tigers 41.5 percent to 34.8 percent and holding the 39-38 advantage on the glass, USF's 21 turnovers accounted for 23 points for Pacific and proved to be the difference maker.

After a break for the Christmas holiday, the Dons return to the court at Gonzaga on Dec. 31. The New Year's Eve game in Spokane is slated to tip at 5 p.m.
