USF Defeats Pacific

Stockton, Calif- The University of San Francisco's men's tennis picked up a 5-2 win against Pacific in their strong singles play.

"I was really proud of the way the guys fought back after a shaky start and never lost belief that they could win the match," said head coach Pablo Pires de Almeida. "I credit the Pacific team for solid doubles and great fight. We were tough today and that's what got us the win."

Although the Dons came short in doubles play, Vasco Valverde picked up the first win for USF with a dominating win 6-1, 6-1 against Brand. This set the monetum to give the dons the push needed to come through for the win.

After coming short at number six singles, and Pacific now ahead 2-1, Nils Skajaa's solid win at number two singles 6-4, 6-4 against Hamilton.Ā

The next matches all going into three sets, showed the Dons mental toughness in the desire to preserve and clinch the win.

Ā James Tallman started the winning streak taking his match against Jose Chama 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. Bernardo Saraiva followed suit claiming his match 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 against Miguel Diaz.

Thomas Takemoto edged out his opponent with a dominant third set performance winning all the deuce points in his match against Daniel Alameh, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1.

The Dons will take on the Navy next on March 15 at Pebble Beach.
