SAN FRANCISCO- USF's women's tennis team slated a 6-1 win against University of San Diego this afternoon at the Olympic Club.
"We played well today and hit the gas pedal when we needed to in order to close things out," said head coach
Hilary Somers. "We had lost to them 4-3 the passed three years so it was great to have the convincing win."
The Dons showed off their dominating play as they earned their first team point in doubles play.
Andrea Ka and
Marina Nikolic served up a 6-2 match against Drew Scinosk and Dana Oppinger at first doubles.
Thyra Taune and
Genevieve McCloskey followed the winning trend defeating Marta Stojanovic and Shani Blecher in a retired match of 3-2.
Milica Hadzi-Tanovic set the tone for USF picking up the first set 6-2, and took the second set after Shani Blecher retired, 2-0. Taune gave the Dons their third point with a two set win against Oppinger 6-0, 6-2.
With the Dons 3-0 against the Toreros, Ka confirmed the team's win after taking her match 6-3, 6-2, against Stojanovic.
The wins continued as McCloskey defeated Janine Koleta in two quick sets 6-3, 6-0. Nikolic also took her match in two sets, 6-3, 6-1 against Drew Spinosa.
Next up for USF will be UC Santa Barbara on March 29, in Pebble Beach, California.
