San Francisco, Calif.- The Dons remain undefeated at home as they pick up their sixth win at the Olympic Club to Santa Clara 5-2. This is the Dons first conference win this spring season and the first time they have beaten SCU in at least five years.
Â
"This was a great win for us today, and to not let down after beating No. 38 BYU earlier in the weekend shows our hard work paying off," said head coach
Hilary Somers.
Â
USF claimed the first point against Santa Clara in doubles play.
Andrea Ka and
Marina Nikolic defeated Nabila Farah and Daniella Silva in a quick 6-2 set.
Sofia Holmberg and
Milica Hadzi-Tanovic worked hard at third doubles to clinch their match against Zeina El Tawil and Riley Morgan, 7-5.
Â
With the lead,
Genevieve McCloskey provided the Dons with a two point advantage after taking down Danielle Zinn in two sets, 6-0, 6-3. Ka picked up her eighth win of the season against Delphine Rouvillois 6-1, 6-4.
Â
Santa Clara claimed number three and four singles, but it was not enough to match up to USF's lead.
Thyra Taune solidified the win for the Dons with a two set win of back-and-forth play against Farah, 6-4 7-5. Holmberg finished the match off with a 7-6 (5), 6-1 win against El Tawil.
