Stanford, Calif. -- Kate Jamboretz highlighted the second day of competition at the Stanford Invitational, finishing first in her section in the 800 meters on Saturday.
Jamboretz narrowly edged out her competition, completing the race in 2:10.67, a new personal best. The mark was also the best by any Don in the 800 m so far this season.
"Kate executed perfectly today," head coach Helen Lehman-Winters said. "I am so proud of how she managed herself in a tightly packed field and then how she was able to battle the last 100 meters for the win. She is getting better and better with every performance, and she has a lot more in her."
Teammate Kenya Shakoor also excelled on Saturday.
Shakoor, a freshman, placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.78 m, a new personal best, surpassing her previous best of 11.44 m. Kiana Davis, of Washington St., won the event with a jump of 12.19.
"I'm really happy with the performances from the jumpers today," jumps coach Laura Huarte said. "They demonstrated what they're capable of doing when their legs are fresh, and I think we'll see even better marks as we approach the peak part of our season."
