With their first win under their belts following last Friday's 91-80 season-opening victory over Sacramento State, the USF women's basketball team returns to action for another home date when they host Seattle University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
The Dons (1-0) are looking to start the season 2-0 for the third consecutive year and will welcome a Seattle squad that is coming off a 68-64 home loss to Idaho in its season opener.
Junior forward
Michaela Rakova played her part in helping lead the Dons over Sac State last week by tallying career-bests in points (26) and rebounds (13) en route to her second-career double-double. Rakova was one of three Dons in double figures on the night, along with
Kalyn Simon (15 pts) and
Rachel Howard (14 pts).
Meanwhile, Alexis Montgomery led the Redhawks (0-1) with 18 points and eight rebounds in their loss to Idaho this past Friday. Seattle went 9-21 in 2015-16 - which put them in seventh place in the WAC - and returns two starters from last year's squad.
This will only be the third meeting between USF and Seattle – and the first matchup in San Francisco - with each team claiming a win in the series. USF took a 67-56 decision in the last meeting in 2014-15, while Seattle captured a 74-56 victory in the first-ever meeting in 2011-12.
Tuesday's game will kickstart a busy stretch for the Dons that features three games over six days, including the team's first road trip to take on Washington State on Friday evening. USF will then return home to host Long Beach State on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Looking ahead, the Dons will travel across the Bay to compete in the Cal Classic in Berkeley the two days after Thanksgiving. USF will meet Cal in the opener on Nov. 25, before playing either Western Carolina or Duquesne the following day.
