Behind the Mask: The Torrance Twosome

Watch the video

SAN FRANCISCO – The lifetime friendship between Jessica Nakae and Amanda Whittle began when the two girls landed in the same kindergarten class in Torrance, Calif. The bond continued on the pitch and the connection strengthened as the pair played on the same club soccer team as third-graders. Add USF head coach Jim Millinder into the mix as the coach to the youth duo, and what would become a veritable USF women's soccer triumvirate got an early start on the path to success.

Nakae and Whittle play a different style of soccer, but when the pair step on the field together the synergy is palpable for all to see. Their teammates, coaches and families can feel the nearly telepathic energy that has allowed the best friends to play some of the best soccer in the history of the USF program.

Here, on the final day of the 2016 women's soccer season as USC and West Virginia vie for the title at the 2016 College Cup in San Jose, Calif., learn more about the "Torrance Twosome" in this extended feature segment of USF's cable television show, "Behind the Mask."

The latest episode reairs on Comcast SportsNet California tonight at 7:30 p.m., and again on Monday at 8 p.m. and Thursday at 5 p.m. Check local listings for your cable provider's station guide and additional air dates and times each month.
