Last Time OutÂ
It was just enough.
After a close call against the WCC leaders in Provo, the San Francisco women's basketball team took down the second-place San Diego Toreros, 59-54, on Saturday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Dons enjoyed four double-digit scoring efforts on the day, with
Taylor Proctor's 12 points and eight rebounds leading the way. The senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., hit a pair of clutch free throws with 23.9 seconds to play to put the Dons up by three. Fellow senior
Zhane Dikes, who finished with 10 points and six rebounds, iced the game with 0.5 seconds left, connecting on her two at the line to close the day's scoring.
Proctor Picks Up Player of the Week
Taylor Proctor earned WCC Player of the Week honors for the first time of the season, and third occasion in her career. She averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks as the Dons tussled with the league's top two teams in the conference standings. The squad earned a 1-1 split on the weekend while coming within one possession of upsetting league-leaders BYU.
At BYU, the 6-0 forward finished with 27 points on .438 shooting and a 10-of-11 effort from the line as the Dons were nipped at the buzzer after Lexi Eaton Rydalch's near half-court heave found its mark as time expired. Two days later at San Diego, the Colorado Springs, Colo., native added a team-high 12 points and eight rebounds as USF defeated the Toreros, 59-54. The win at the Jenny Craig Pavilion was USF's first victory at San Diego since the 2004 season.
Along with conference designation, the NCAA recognized her as one of the nation's top performers of the week in their "Starting 5."
Splash City
Shooting 42.6 percent from the floor, the Dons have seven women over the .500-mark in true shooting percentage, which takes into account field goals, 3-pointers and free throws. As a team, the Dons have a true shooting percentage of 52.9, according to John Hollinger's formula. In comparison, fellow Bay Area team and reigning NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, currently have a true shooting percentage of 59.4.

Anna Seilund (.527 ts%) and
Rachel Howard (.516 ts%). Albeit a small sample size, in freshman
Jaylin Jones' eight games of action, her true shooting percentage comes in at 103.6 percent, as she had her first misses of the season in USF's game against Santa Clara (4-5 fg, 3-4 3fg, 3-4 ft).

She is joined on the senior-laden list by defending NCAA Player of the Year Breanna Stewart (UConn), Shereesha Richards (Albany), Jillian Alleyne (Oregon), Courtney Williams (South Florida), Nathalie Fontaine (Ball State), Joy Adams (Iona), Erika Livermore (Fairleigh Dickinson), Brittney Martin (Oklahoma State), Talia Walton (Washington) and Ruvanna Campbell (Ill.-Chicago). USF Record-Setters
The senior duo of
Taylor Proctor and
Zhane Dikes both grace USF's 1,000-point scoring list of 21 women as well as the 20-member 500-rebound club. Dikes notched her 500th rebound in USF's final non-conference game of the season against San Francisco State.Â
Along with her distinction on the points and rebounds lists, Dikes became the USF all-time leader in minutes played in USF's game at Santa Clara on Jan. 23. She is averaging more than 33 minutes per game in her career wearing Green and Gold, and passed Rheina Ale ('08-12 - 3,755 minutes) and men's minutes leader Angelo Caloiaro ('08-12 - 3,781 minutes) to earn the new school record.
Proctor leapt to third in all-time scoring after scoring 39 points on the weekend swing to BYU and San Diego, and she stands in third in rebounds, needing 12 more to jump to second. She is one of five women to rate in the top-10 in both categories. In the Dons' game at Pacific, she joined career-leader and Legend of the Hilltop Mary Hile-Nepfel as the second woman to reach the top five in both points and rebounds.
Individually,
Rachel Howard etched her name in the record books after swishing seven 3-pointers at Long Beach State. The seven triple mark in a game ties Andrea Kagie (at San Diego, 02/08/97) and Amy Touli (Northwestern State, 12/19/92).
