Nicklason Makes Strong Debut for the Dons

Sacramento, Calif. –– Freshman Hugh Nicklason shined at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday at the Sacramento State campus, setting a new school record in the 800M with a time of 1:50.91.

"Hugh had a solid opener today," said head track and field coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "His goal was to open up faster than our school record and he did just that. Given where he is in his training, we are pleased with his performance. He has a lot more in him and we fully expect that to show as he gets deeper into the season."

Other highlights for the Dons included a pair of great marks in the 1500M by Edward Shepherd (3:49.10) and Mohamed Aziz (3:51.84) to finish third and eighth, respectively. The strong times put the two on the USF's all-time record list.

In the field events, Katoa Ahau, took 9th in the javelin with a distance of 51.71M.

"It is always a little tough to get things rolling the weekend after spring break, so far the most part we are pleased with what we saw today," Lehman-Winters said. "We will now get back into our normal routine and get in some good quality training in preparation for the Stanford Invitational in two weeks."

The Stanford Invitational is set for April 1-2 in Palo Alto, Calif.
