#OneTeam
After a two week break in the action, the 13th-ranked Dons hit the sand at the Piper Park in Larkspur, Calif., to host Bay Area foe Stanford. USF welcomes the Cardinal to its home courts for the first time in program history. The quick-starting Dons are off to a 9-1 record after the first month of competition, with its lone loss coming at No. 19 California on March 15.
"It is the first time we have hosted Stanford at our home court since both programs started beach volleyball in 2013," noted co-head coach
Gilad Doron. "Our team is looking forward to a great match and another opportunity to compete and improve versus a very solid Stanford squad. I hope many of the Bay Area volleyball fans will join us for a great afternoon of volleyball."
"We are expecting a very physical match-up against a strengthening Stanford team who started the year in the national poll," added co-head coach
Eyal Zimet. "We are looking forward to seeing Piper Park buzzing with energy around the competition courts, or fans who can't make it out can watch online at theW.tv."
About the Dons
USF is in the midst of its most successful season on the beach in program history, racing out to a 9-1 record through the first month of the year. The nine-win tally already stands as a program best, with at least seven matches remaining on the docket. USF's pairings at the Nos. 2, 3, and 4 positions in the lineup have a combined record of 25-4, and 21 of those points have been won in straight sets.
About the Cardinal
Stanford sports a 2-2 record on the year, hosting the Stanford Tournament on March 5-6. The Cardinal posted Day 1 victories over Sacramento State and San Jose State before falling in the second day of the competition to Pacific and Saint Mary's. The freshman duo of Cortney Bowen and Jennifer DiSanto, playing from the No. 5 spot, accounted for both of Stanford's points in their losses. The pair stands at 3-1 on the season.
USF and Stanford – The Series
The Dons and Cardinal have met on the sand twice before, with Stanford taking home victories in 2013 and 2014. Both of those matches pitted Northern California Sand Volleyball Consortium teams against each other, prior to the formation of WCC and Pac-12 sanctioned beach leagues.
Looking Ahead
In conjunction with West Coast Conference opponent Santa Clara, the Dons and the Broncos host the second Santa Cruz Invitational to open play in April. USF is slated to take on pairs from Santa Clara, CSUN and Cal Poly in the all-day event on the beaches of Santa Cruz this Saturday, April 2.
