CLAREMONT, Calif. -- USF's women's tennis season came to an end today as the Dons fell to Saint Mary's, 4-2 in the first round of the WCC Championships being held in Claremont.

The Gaels posted doubles wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions and then preceded to record singles three singles victories on courts 3, 5 and 6 to close out the match. With the win, the Gaels advance to face No. 2 seed Gonzaga in one semifinal match on Saturday.

After suffering a loss at the No. 2 doubles position, USF's top tandem of Andrea Ka and Thyra Taune evened the match with an easy, 6-0 victory over Clementine Clement and Emma Critser.

The Gaels earned the doubles point when the team of Parminder Kaur and Kareena Manji downed Genevieve McCloskey and Alisha Sharma, 6-3 to give Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Gaels boosted their lead to 2-0 when Clement downed McCloskey, 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 3. A 6-1, 6-3 victory by Kaur over Shama on court No. 6 brought the Gaels to within one point of closing out the match. However, Ka gave the Dons life with a 6-2, 7-6 (8) win over Jana McCord court No. 1. Shanna Dos Santos then came through with a come-form-behind, three-set, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 victory over Manji on court 4. However, Saint Mary's closed out the match when Crister downed Borjeson, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 on court No. 5. The match between Taune and Saint Mary's Jamie Powell was suspended in the third set.

It was the final match in the USF careers for Ka and Taune. A third USF senior, Sofia Holmberg, sat out today's match with an injury. Ka finished her brilliant USF career with a 86-26 record in singles competition,

USF finishes the season with an overall record of 6-13 while the Gaels improve to 9-10-1 on the year.
