WSOC | Dons Notch First Program Win Over Pilots With Golden Goal

THE RUNDOWN
PORTLAND, Ore. – A blast on a free kick by Samantha Jehnings at the 106th minute proved to be the historic game winner, as the University of San Francisco women's soccer team notched the programs first ever win over host Portland on Sunday afternoon at Merlo Field.

After being outshot 6-2 in the opening half and trailing 1-0 at the intermission, the Dons (5-8-2, 1-3-0 WCC) took it to the Pilots (3-10-1, 0-4-0 WCC) in the second half.  USF recorded 13 shots, 12 on goal.

Miciah Madison got USF level in the 82nd minute, scoring on a corner kick by Camille Wilson.  It was the second goal of the season for Madison.

The Dons and Pilots went into extra time where it looked like both teams were headed for a draw.  In the 106th minute in the second overtime, Jehnings blasted a free kick from the far-left wing for the history goal.  The score was Jehnings fifth of the season.

COACHES QUOTE
"It was a tremendous result for the team!" said head coach Jim Millinder.  "The first time in program history to beat Portland which is a great thing! But I'm so proud of all my players for staying with the game and battling back after being down 1-0.  We talked about it at halftime what we needed to do to get back even, Miciah gets the equalizer and then Sam finished them of!  What a team effort today! So proud of the team."
