Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MSOC | Dons Blank Pacific to Move into First in the WCC

THE RUNDOWN

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of San Francisco men's soccer team made it five wins in a row on Wednesday with a convincing 3-0 over visiting Pacific.

USF (8-8, 5-1 WCC) displayed great patience in the first half, waiting for their opportunity to create an opening in the stingy Pacific defense. In the 26th minute, USF got their breakthrough when defender Matt Orr whipped a cross into the box that was controlled by Leon Schwarzer, and the senior ripped a shot into the back of the net to make it, 1-0 USF.

In the second half, the Dons got an important insurance goal in the 49th minute when Aaron Lombardi floated a free kick into the box that was headed home by Orr for his second goal of the season. Down two goals, Pacific (11-4-1, 3-2-1 WCC) ramped up the pressure to trying to get on the score sheet, but the USF back line held strong to keep Pacific scoreless. Junior Tawwab Emiola put the game out of reach in the 77th minute when he headed home a corner kick from Lombardi to make the score, 3-0 USF.

With this win, USF moves into first place in the West Coast Conference standings with 15 points. All WCC teams will play their final game on Saturday, Nov. 11. Second-place Portland travels to Saint Mary's to take on the Gaels at 3 p.m.
